New enRichMyData project offers innovative solutions for data enrichment

Several European and international organisations, covering large corporations, SMEs, research centres and universities, are joining forces to develop new methods and tools for
effective and efficient management of data enrichment processes in the recently started project enRichMyData: Enabling Data Enrichment Pipelines for AI-driven Business Products and Services.

The initiative is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation and will run for three years between 2022-2025. High-quality, rich and meaningful data are crucial to the successful implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) solutions. The process of delivering the required data to feed into AI and BDA models is costly, difficult, and often limited in terms of data and skill availability. The definition, implementation, and operation of data enrichment processes is currently difficult for too many organisations willing to improve
their BDA and AI applications.

The overall vision of the enRichMyData project is the creation of a novel paradigm for building rich, high-quality, valuable, and FAIR-compliant datasets to feed downstream BDA and AI applications in the context of data sharing ecosystems, such as data spaces.

The main goal of the project is to develop a software toolbox, the enRichMyData toolbox, comprising practical, robust and scalable components to support organisations in enriching their data with external reference data they may have limited knowledge of, as well as supporting data providers in making their data reusable and available in data enrichment processes.

“enRichMyData addresses the needs of data ecosystems to have access to better software tools, infrastructure
services, and datasets for cost-effective data enrichment, while at the same time enabling opportunities for novel
use of data.” — Dumitru Roman, SINTEF AS (enRichMyData project coordinator)

enRichMyData is coordinated by SINTEF AS (Norway), one of Europe’s largest independent research organisations. The project partners include companies such as Phillips (Netherlands) and Bosch (Germany),
dedicated to engineering and manufacturing; Spend Network (Estonia), provider of procurement data; JOT Internet Media (Spain), a digital marketing company; CS Group (Romania), a software services company; Expert AI (Italy), a technology company specialised in natural language understanding; and Ontotext (Bulgaria), a semantic technology company. They will have the full support of the research partners that, in addition to SINTEF, include University of Milano Bicocca (Italy), Jozef Stefan Institute (Slovenia), University of Copenhagen (Denmark),GATE Institute (Bulgaria), and BGRIMM Technology Group (China).

The results of the project will be demonstrated in a wide range of business cases in areas such as Digital Marketing (marketing data enrichment for smart bidding optimisation), Manufacturing (AI-based welding analytics),Predictive Maintenance (data enrichment for smart maintenance of medical imaging systems), Public Procurement (European register of entities from Known Actions), Innovation Ecosystems (Innovation Knowledge Graph), Mineral Processing (industrial data enrichment for mineral processing optimisation).

With a budget of nearly 6M euro, enRichMyData is an Innovation Action funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme and spans from the period October 2022 – September 2025. The Kick-Off meeting is held between the 4th and 6th of October 2022, where the team defines joint strategies and starts working together towards making the project results available to the general public in a timely manner.
