Buyers who stole Christmas (again)

Santa being arrested

It’s time to shed a festive tear and feel some sympathy for all the bidding teams who’ve got bids to respond to during the Christmas break. So put on a Christmas jumper and let’s have a run down of the buyers who insist on setting tender deadlines during the Christmas break.

The list below includes buyers that have let tenders with a deadline between Thursday the 22nd of December and Tuesday the 10th of January. Unfortunately we’ve found over one thousand seven hundred tenders with holiday deadlines this year, but thankfully it is a small decrease on tenders with deadlines in the same period last year, although no sign of the misery ending.

A special mention has to go to Hull for their commitment to spreading festive joy by beating NHS England and the MOD, last year’s winner, quite handsomely. Derbyshire Council and Health Education England are also appearing in our list for a second year, whilst everyone else on the festive naughty step appears to be a first timer in our rankings.

Our message from last year bears repeating, whilst we’re happy to indulge in a bit of seasonal sarcasm about bidding at Christmas there is still a serious element here, each of these tenders will receive fewer than the average numbers of bids, if buyers are trying to encourage competition and to improve bid responses this is not how to do it.

Let’s hope that next year brings a bit more cheer and a few less holiday deadlines. To talk to us about our procurement data, insights or research capabilities, get in touch.
